A Useful Metaphor! ^_^

Over at The Gates of Vienna, Baron Bodissy introduces an interesting essay by Dimitri Kolb on the collapse of the Soviet Union. ^_^

Frequent readers of this blog are doubtless aware that I am fond of the vampire metaphor myself as evidenced both here and here, but who can deny that the Undead are indeed legion and that Dimitri has described quite correctly one of the nastiest vampires of them all? o_O

Let's just hope that the stake is of sturdy stuff and remains in the heart of that particular vampire forever! ^_~

Why Does the AP Neglect Afghanistan? o_O

Over in Captain's Quarters, Captain Ed joins Jules Crittenden in asking a simple question that is both interesting and pertinent: Why do the AP reporters not think our soldiers who died in Afghanistan worth naming? Since Garry Traudeau is playing a similar game in his comic strip it's worth asking why he doesn't think such soldiers worth naming either. Someone should explain to such people that Memorial Day is a day to remember *all* the troops rather than merely the ones they think they can use to score political points with. >_<

Oh well, as Sweetness and Light once pointed out, there were once Copperheads who opposed America's fight to survive in the days of the Civil War that started our Memorial Day traditions to begin with and sought to undermine the nation for their own selfish purposes even then. We should probably not be surprised that such Copperheads would be with us today as well. ~_~

A Look to the North.

Via Joanne Dow at Chaos Manor, Michael Totten provides us with an interesting look at the Kurdistan part of Iraq. Well worth reading for anyone who wishes to know more about the world in which we live. ^_^

A Tale of 2 Ecospheres...

Bonnie tells us an interesting story of river dolphins and geese that gives us an interesting insight into the way of Life that most truly serves the preservation of Nature. ^_^

It isn't often that I say "read the whole thing" because I tend to assume that my readers are the sort of people who would do that anyway, but this time I will say that the whole thing is worth reading twice. ^_~

Slightly Disturbing...

So via Instapundit we now learn Modern Physics is no longer required for an undergraduate degree in physics? O_O

This does serve to show what any "scientific consensus"of those
who believe in Global Warming is worth when you think of it. ^_^;

The Ghost of Futures Past...

James Lileks gives us an interesting look at what SF Fandom was like in the past complete with prime examples of the sort of Reader Service the fans had back then. Those who would like to take another look at that time via fiction might enjoy reading a novel called What Mad Universe?"" by Frederic Brown which is its own way was the "Fallen Angels" of that day. ^_^

(Via Ed Driscoll (Although "elites" is very much not the word I would use for the Leftist zombies, noobs and lamers who worship at the alter of Doom! :P ), via Instapundit ).
